Shellac application involves dissolving natural resin from lac bugs in alcohol to create a finish for wood, art, food, and even nails; it's applied by brushing, spraying, or rubbing in thin, multiple coats for a fine finish, but requires frequent retouching due to poor durability and water/alcohol solubility. Different methods and types of shellac are used, such as French polishing with a rubber for furniture, or for manicure purposes, a thin, gel-like base coat cured under an LED lamp.
